Mentoring

Mentoring from someone who has done the job.

One-to-one mentoring for founders who want to make better technology decisions, and for technical people growing into leadership. I have made the journey from developer to CTO, and I have hired and developed CTOs along the way.

Two tracks

For founders, and for future CTOs.

Founder mentoring

Make technology decisions with confidence, without becoming technical yourself.

  • Do we need a CTO, and when?
  • How do I tell whether my team or agency is doing well?
  • Build, buy or outsource?
  • How much should technology cost us?

CTO & tech lead mentoring

The parts of the job nobody teaches engineers, from someone who learned them on the way up.

  • Leading people and growing a team
  • Architecture decisions with business impact
  • Hiring, budgets and vendor choices
  • Talking to the board and investors
How it works

Regular sessions, real support between them.

We meet one-to-one by video on a regular rhythm, and you can reach me when a big decision comes up in between.

  • Personal development plan
  • Regular one-to-one sessions
  • Support for big decisions
  • Templates & frameworks you keep
Questions

Mentoring, explained.

What is the difference between mentoring and a fractional CTO?

A fractional CTO leads your technology for you. Mentoring helps you, or someone on your team, lead it yourselves. Many founders start with mentoring and decide later whether they need more.

I am not technical. Will I keep up?

Yes. Founder mentoring is about decisions, not code. I explain things in business terms and focus on the questions you need to answer.

Can my company sponsor mentoring for our tech lead?

Yes. Companies often use mentoring to grow a senior engineer into a CTO role before hiring externally.

How is it priced?

Mentoring is priced per programme, depending on how often we meet. We agree it after the intro call.
